APVRS 2017 Host City: Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is both the capital and the largest city in Malaysia, with a population of around 7 million including the greater suburban area. It has developed rapidly in the past 150 years from a small mining settlement into a bustling metropolis with an iconic skyline.
The Petronas Twin Towers, one KL’s most famous landmarks, were completed in 1996 and are still the tallest twin towers in the world. Visitors can walk between the two towers using the sky bridge on the 41st floor and then travel all the way up to the 86th floor observation deck.
Other noteworthy sites in KL are the Sultan Abdul Samad building, formerly the offices of the British colonial secretariat, and Masjid Jamek, a Moorish-style mosque. Popular local attractions include the KL Bird Park with the world’s largest free flight walk-in aviary, the Royal Selangor Pewter Visitor Centre, and Central Market where a variety of local handicrafts and art can be purchased.
